Wind energy is a green power technology because it has only minor impacts on the environment. Wind energy plants produce no air pollutants or greenhouse gases. It is important to know that these wind farms if carefully planned, can be a vital part of our energy future.

Above is a Southwest wind power turbine (AIR-X model). This turbine was installed in 2005 on the roof of Rochester Institute of Technology , as an experiment to generate power for monitoring and lighting. The turbine is over 60' high and puts out 400 watts of power during 27 mph winds. The students calculated the average wind speed to be 12 mph during the testing st

 

  Pictured above, is a wind electric farm. These wind farms create mega watts of electric power which is supplied back into the electric grid and supplies hundreds of thousands of customer with renewable electric power. As you can see, they locate these turbines near hills or mountains to take advantage wind speeds.
