BuPP stands for Back-up Power Pod, a new concept in home emergency power systems. Gone are the days of helplessness when the power goes out. No more candles, flashlights, heavy blankets, noisy, hard-to-start generators.
Most homes can run sufficiently on 2,000 watts of power for extended periods. This includes, microwave ovens, refrigerators, lights, sump pumps, freezers, garage door openers, TVs...
State-of-the-art technology provides enough rock solid power for hours, even days. Go on vacation never worrying about what you may come home to: spoiled food, flooded basement.
Automatically prepares itself for the next outage - no fuss.
Installs indoors, near the breaker panel - basement or garage.
No more unsightly, noisy, expensive generators outdoors.
Perfect for condominiums, apartments and any size home (or office).
FAQs
Q: How much floor space will the BuPP require?
A: 2 feet by 2 feet.
Q: What’s the best location for installation?
A: In close proximity to the main breaker panel. Minimizing the expense of adding long electrical runs. The BuPP plugs into a basic generator transfer panel, available at all electrical supply houses or home improvement stores.
Q: What if the power outage exceeds the BuPP’s reserve?
A: Any inexpensive gasoline generator may be used to recharge the BuPP’s batteries. The BuPP will be configured to maximize the power output of the generator to recharge it’s batteries at the most efficient rate – saving valuable fuel.
Q: What is the yearly cost in running the BuPP?
A: The BuPP only consumes 1 watt of power in standby mode, works out to less than a dollar a year. Generators typically require a 100 watt block heater, consuming up to $90 dollars a year. This is not including routine maintenance, oil/filter changes, disposal, and weekly test runs.
Q: Can I run my whole house air conditioner with the BuPP?
A: Even though a custom system could be designed to accomplish such a load, the BuPP is designed to power basic life sustaining needs. A whole house air conditioner may require up to a 30kW generator. You may consider keeping on hand, a small window AC unit, which the BuPP can power and keep a single room cool, or use a box fan.
Q: Can the BuPP heat my house?
A: The BuPP can run the blower on a gas or LP furnace. We recommend keeping on hand a couple of tanks of LP (gas grill size) and a good quality LP space heater (follow manufacturer instructions!) for supplemental heat. Keep in mind, your furnace could fail anytime for a variety of reasons, regardless of the electric grid. A backup heater is always a good idea to have on hand.
Q: What can I power with the BuPP?
A: Select 6 critical circuits – basic lighting: bedrooms/basement (use high efficiency compact fluorescence or LED bulbs), refrigerator, deep freezer, sump pump, microwave, television/radio, computer/network/telephones, security system, medical equipment. Up to 4 kilowatts of power. The less power you use, the longer you can sustain a blackout.
Q: Can I use a BuPP in conjunction with my home generator?
A: Yes. In fact, the BuPP can signal the generator to start - automatically recharging the batteries. Saving precious fuel.
Q: Can I recharge the BuPP by other means?
A: Yes! Photovoltaic solar panels, wind generator, hydro generator – all fully compatible. The system may qualify for the 30% federal tax rebate and other state grants for renewable energy. We can supply and install any alternative energy options.
Q: How do I know how much energy remains in the BuPP?
A: There is a digital “fuel” gauge on the outside showing energy draw, % remaining and other vital statistics.
Q: Does the BuPP require any maintenance?
A: No. All components are solid state, computer controlled. The batteries require no equalization or watering.
Q: I have some sensitive computer equipment that require stable power. Can the BuPP meet my needs?
A: Yes. In fact, many generator’s voltage and frequency fluctuate as loads switch on and off. The BuPP will provide rock-solid voltage at 60Hz - clean power.
Q: I can buy a generator for the price of a BuPP. Why should I consider a BuPP?
A: Generators are fabulous devices, and if you truly require heavy loads and do not mind having a large propane tank in your yard – go for it. Even though the purchase price of a generator is equivalent to a BuPP, the installation costs can easily triple the purchase price. Also, the yearly maintenance costs plus block heater energy consumption may add to several extra hundred dollars a year.
Q: How long will I be without power before the BuPP supplies power?
A: 16 milliseconds (.016 seconds) – practically instantaneous. Most generators take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes to start, warm up and switch over (if they start at all). You will barely detect a flicker on your TV or computer.
